Cycling Paths

You can explore Druskininkai by bike – along the avenues, the Nemunas riverbank, Vijūnėlė Park – as well as the surrounding areas. Below are four main cycling routes in the Druskininkai region. In winter, the cycling paths are suitable for cross-country skiing.

Map of cycling routes

Paper maps are available at the hotel reception or at Druskininkai Tourism and Business Information Centres (M.K. Čiurlionio St. 65 or Gardino St. 3).

Nemunas Trail

Length: 4.3 km (extendable up to 24 km)

Duration: approx. 1 hour

Route: Park Bridge – UNO Adventure Park – Spring – Love Island – World War I Soldiers’ Graves – Airfield – “Star Orbit” Trail

The trail was established in 2014 on the site of a popular walking path and stretches from the end of Maironio St. (Park Bridge) southwards, connecting with the “Star Orbit” trail.
The route starts near UNO Adventure Park and passes pine forests along the Nemunas river to a small hill with one of the most scenic city views – the panorama of Love Island. A few minutes later, the path approaches the former Druskininkai airfield.
200 meters past the airfield, the trail joins the “Star Orbit” cycling route. From here, you can choose your direction: left (2.7 km) leads back to Druskininkai, right continues toward Švendubrė village and Raigardas Valley.

Star Orbit Trail

Length: 9 km, 12 km, 24 km

Duration: 2–4 hours, 6 hours

Route: Druskonis Lake – Mergelės Akelių Lake – Nemunas Riverbank Recreation Areas – Devil’s Stone – Švendubrė Village – Raigardas Valley – Druskininkai Jewish Community Cemetery – Old City Cemetery

Starting at Druskonis Lake, head toward Vijūnėlė Pond. From the metal “Blacksmith” sculpture between Vijūnėlė and Druskonis Lakes, the path enters the pine forest and winds through hilly terrain toward the Nemunas.
The highlight of this route is Devil’s Stone, the tenth largest boulder in Lithuania and a geological monument. Near the stone, at the northern edge of Raigardas Valley, lies the historic Švendubrė village with ethnographic homesteads. After reaching the village intersection, you can return to the city or continue south to Raigardas Valley. Raigardas is famous for inspiring M.K. Čiurlionis (“Raigardas” triptych) and V. Krėvė (“Evening Hymn”).
Returning to Druskininkai, you can visit historical cemeteries. Around the Mergelės Akys ponds are graves of the Jewish community, Soviet soldiers, partisans, and locals of Lithuanian, Polish, and Russian origin. Many notable Druskininkai residents are buried here, e.g., K. Wolfgang, K. Dineika, J. Pileckis. The trail along Druskonis Lake leads back to Druskininkai.

Žilvinas Trail

Length: 6 km, 8 km, 12 km

Duration: 2–3 hours, 6 hours

Route: Confluence of Ratnyčia & Nemunas Rivers – Žako Lipšicas Sculpture Park – “Saulutė” Sanatorium – “Eglė” Sanatorium & Pond – Neravų Forest – Ilgis Lake – Grūtas Park – Antanas Česnulis Sculpture & Recreation Park – Ratnyčia – Forest Museum “Girios aidas” – Druskininkai

The route begins at the confluence of Ratnyčia and Nemunas rivers and passes the “Saulutė” children’s rehabilitation sanatorium and “Dangaus skliautai” café via forest trails to the “Eglė” Sanatorium. You can taste mineral water at the sanatorium’s buffet, then continue east toward Grūtas Park, enjoying Alka Pond and Grūta Stream.
At Grūtas Lake, you will find the Soviet sculpture and relic exhibition, a zoo, and a “Soviet-era cuisine” café. Returning to Druskininkai along Kaunas road, you pass the St. Bartholomew Parish Church in Ratnyčia. Nearby, in Naujasodė, you can visit the Antanas Česnulis Sculpture & Recreation Park and the Forest Museum “Girios aidas.”
